2011 in review
The WordPress.com stats helper monkeys prepared a 2011 annual report for this blog.
Here’s an excerpt:
The concert hall at the Syndey Opera House holds 2,700 people. This blog was viewed about 8,400 times in 2011. If it were a concert at Sydney Opera House, it would take about 3 sold-out performances for that many people to see it.
Why browser speed tests fail
We’ve all heard of browser speed tests that claim different things: “Firefox is the fastest”, “Safari crushes the competition”, “Google Chrome is faster than a potato”, whatever. The truth is, none of these browsers is faster than the other, save for IE, which sucks. Why? Read the rest of this entry
How much time did Google Pacman waste us?
The answer: A lot.
According to Rescuetime.com, 4.82 million hours of time were wasted on PacMan. That translates into:
- 300,000 days
- 6,690 months [30d = 1m]
- 550. years
- 5.50 centuries
That’s almost half a millenium of time spent by the entire world population playing Google Pacman.
Additionally, when everyone found out that the Google Pacman logo was playable, $120 million dollars was lost in the global economy by the end of Sunday. On opening day, Google amassed 505 million unique visitors, and the game consumed around 5 million hours of work time.
This is the first time Google has done an interactive logo, but they’ve managed to place a significant dent in world productivity.
And additionally, you can still play Google Pacman by going to http://google.com/pacman .

Thought Box hits 500 tags!
It’s a mini-milestone for the blog, since I really don’t count tags as anything significant. They’re there to give my blog promotion, as people like searching up tags.
My dashboard gives me 121 posts, 5 pages, 20 cats, and 500 tags. 189 comments to date.
February 2010 Blog Report
Well, I re-decided against stopping blog reports for a while… kind of. From now on, blog reports won’t be a lot of detailed statistics, it will be a line graph of day-by-day visits, and I think that’s what most people are interested in.
So, here’s the viewage graph for February 2010:

Statistics are for this month only unless otherwise stated. Asterisk denotes all-time record.
Total blog views since inception: 2403
Notes from the author: Traffic has sunk this month. Only eight blog posts in October. Also note that there are some new statistics, courtesy of GetClicky.com. However, these statistics were compiled November 6th, so they may be very inaccurate.
My blog gets… 37/100?!!!
http://blog.grader.com/ says so. Lookey here: http://blog.grader.com/blog/deathgleaner.wordpress.com.
So now do you wonder WHY this is so? Let’s take a look.
Here’s some stats:
- RANK: 351/1371
- TRAFFIC RANK (ALEXA): 3,392,772
- INBOUND LINKS: 256
- UPDATE FREQUENCY: Weekly
As far as I know, those stats are correct. Let’s look at them in detail.
The Alexa Traffic rank measures the amount of visitors your website gets compared to all the websites in the world. This blog doesn’t get very many viewers, so no wonder it’s so low (in this case, that’s denoted by a high number, that is, rank is in ordinal numbers.)
It also says: “We detected that your feed doesn’t reflect your real website. This affects your blog visibility to search engines and gives false message to your readers.” I don’t know what that means, and I don’t care.
It also gives me a red exclamation mark due to the fact that my blog is on a free blogging website. LAME!
As for comments, Grader counts 70 (probably not including threads, because there’s way more actual comments), and my comments have been referenced on 19 occasions elsewhere on the Internet.
For all this, I get an F-. Not surprising, but what do you think?
